Niamh Boothroyd has completed a loan move to Middlesbrough FC Women, marking her first taste of senior football. The 19-year-old midfielder signed her first professional contract with Sunderland in June before the temporary switch to Boro.
Development pathway
Boothroyd's pathway to senior football has been built through grassroots and elite academy development across the North East. She began playing in 2014 with Benfield Girls before progressing to Heaton Hawks.
She spent three years at Newcastle United's Player Development Centre, then moved to Sunderland's PDC in 2020. Her performances earned her selection for Sunderland's Regional Talent Club in 2021, where she represented Northumberland U16s and went on to earn selection for the England Schools FA U15 Girls squad.
