Sunderland AFC began their three-match pre-season tour of the USA with a 4-2 defeat to Liverpool at GEODIS Park in Nashville. An attendance of 24,897 watched the match.
Despite missing several players following the FIFA World Cup, Sunderland produced an encouraging display. Dan Ballard and Romaine Mundle returned from injury for the fixture.

Liverpool opened the scoring through Kieran Morrison. Sunderland responded before half-time when Chris Rigg won possession and fed Enzo Le Fée, who struck an unstoppable 25-yard effort past the goalkeeper.
The Black Cats went ahead four minutes into the second half when Jayon Jones' pass released Timur Tutierov to finish from close range. Liverpool then levelled through Dominik Szoboszlai's long-range strike, before Federico Chiesa and Lewis Koumas added goals to seal the result.
Wilson Isidor made his first pre-season appearance after his involvement with Haiti at the FIFA World Cup.
