Joe Cowan has signed his first professional contract with Sunderland AFC. The 17-year-old has been at the club for nearly 10 years and has progressed through the academy ranks to feature for both the Under-21 and Under-18 sides.

Cowan joined Sunderland AFC's academy as a young player and has impressed with his performances at youth level over the past year, breaking into the Under-21 squad.

"I'm over the moon to sign this contract," Cowan said. "I've been here around 10 years, so it's amazing to have signed it. I want to say thank you to everyone who has helped me because the coaches and my family, I wouldn't have been at this moment if it wasn't for them."
