A Sunderland clothing and creative venture has set out plans for small-group sewing and upcycling workshops with an alternative-fashion focus.

Ruby Doomsday Clothing UK says it wants to offer a relaxed setting where people can learn practical skills, customise clothing and meet other makers.

The venture’s submission to Sunderland Gazette places it on Fawcett Street. Its supplied release describes workshops being developed for beginners, families, young people and people who may not feel comfortable in a traditional craft class.

Repairing and reinventing clothes

Upcycling is central to the idea, with participants encouraged to repair, adapt and keep clothing in use for longer.

The proposed sessions include beginner sewing and alternative-fashion projects, alongside men’s Battle Jacket workshops involving patches, repairs and customisation.

The founder says small groups are intended to give people time to work at their own pace, ask questions and get to know one another.

A less formal creative space

Ruby said she wanted the venture to feel informal rather than clinical, combining music and conversation with making things.

The release says the project aims to welcome neurodivergent participants and people who have not felt at home in more conventional groups.

Alongside the workshop plans, Ruby Doomsday is developing an alternative clothing range with the same emphasis on reusing and reinventing clothes.

No confirmed public workshop timetable or prices were included in the submission. Further information about the venture is available through its website.
