Five Sunderland AFC players were in international action on Thursday as the first fixtures of the September international break took place across the globe.

Juan Riquelme's Senior Debut

Summer signing Juan Riquelme marked a milestone by making his senior international debut for Ecuador in a 3-0 friendly defeat to Korea Republic. The 19-year-old was introduced for the final 25 minutes and made a positive impact after coming off the bench. Nilson Angulo also featured in the same match, starting the contest and playing 75 minutes before being withdrawn.

Noah Sadiki's Winning Start

Noah Sadiki played the full 90 minutes as DR Congo began their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign with a 2-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea. The Sunderland midfielder completed the match as DR Congo made a winning start to their qualifying campaign.

Kevin Danso and UEFA Nations League

Kevin Danso completed the full match as Austria recorded a 3-1 victory over Israel in UEFA Nations League Group 3. The Sunderland defender played all 90 minutes as Austria opened their campaign with three points.

Netherlands Draw with Germany

Brian Brobbey started for the Netherlands in their UEFA Nations League Group 2 meeting with Germany. Brobbey was forced to leave the field during the first half through injury, with Cody Gakpo scoring for the Dutch side in a 1-1 draw. Fellow Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs was an unused substitute.
