Sunderland AFC have completed a confident pre-season victory at RC Lens in France, winning 2-0 at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis. Trai Hume and Wilson Isidor scored in the second half to secure the result.
Manager Reinildo was pleased with both the performance and the outcome. "It was a good game, a very good game," he said. "We have a good feeling. We did a very good job on the pitch, so we aren't just happy about the result but with the way we played."
Returning Players Build Fitness
Granit Xhaka and Chemsdine Talbi returned to the squad this week following their involvement at the FIFA World Cup. Both players completed 45 minutes as they continue to build up their fitness ahead of the season.
Summer signing Thomas Meunier also featured for the first time since joining the club in July, completing 45 minutes on his debut in Sunderland colours.
Positive Pre-Season Campaign
Reinildo described the pre-season as positive overall. "Pre-season is tough, but it has been good. It has been positive – we have trained hard and played many games," he said. "From the first game against York to today, we have had a very good feeling."
With two weeks until the start of the season, Sunderland have one more pre-season fixture to play. "We keep pushing now," Reinildo added. "We are in a good place, but it is very important that we keep this mentality to win going."
